"Virginia three-piece Floodlore recently released their debut full-length album “When It Was Written” and have managed to create an album rife with hazy Psyche and Blues elements. The guys, Eric, Zack, and Ben, have captured a very vintage-tinged sound overall and the eight songs on this album run a gamut of retro-rife nuances with the result being a varied delivery of Stoner Rock qualities. There’s the Delta Blues-esque opener “Device” and it’s eventual scorching guitars and the Boogie-drenched raunch of “Justice“. There’s the stomp of the juke joint jumper “Bars” and the wailing of the Jimi Hendrix-ish “Release” plus the flat-out fueled fire of the high energy “Evening“. That’s followed by another pair of adrenalized tracks, the jam-laden number “Peace” and it’s follow-up “Glow” but one of the most interesting pieces here is the nearly 30 minute album closing “Sun/When The Floodlore Was Written/In Praise Of Alan Watts” trilogy. It is an extended head trip of hallucinatory qualities.
For fans of All Them Witches, Cream, and Firebird."
